With over 364 million registered members worldwide and over 7 million in Australia, LinkedIn is targeted towards professionals and business owners. Companies are 50% more likely to pursue professionals they engage with on LinkedIn. Well-optimised profiles will allow you to be found easily.
Why use LinkedIn?
- Looking for specialists in a particular area
- Job Posting | Job Searching
- Business Networking
- Content Hub
As a big business hub, LinkedIn is sound credibility check that people can use when they are doing their due diligence. You need to make sure that they can easily find you on LinkedIn.
It is good to direct traffic towards your website, optimising your business website to generate potential leads. However, LinkedIn content links automatically will have “no-follow” attribute, which means that they are not going to pass page ranks to your website, only traffic.
Make sure that your profile is public
Ensure that your profile is public; otherwise, Google will not be able to index it.
From the top level menu click on Profile > Edit Profile
Under your picture, you can click on Update your public profile settings
A panel will appear on the right-hand side. Activate Make my public profile visible to everyone and tick all of the boxes in the list.
Fully complete your profile.
A finished profile will influence your internal LinkedIn search ranking, and ultimately increase your chances of getting a lead. Fill out every single field that you can and use descriptive keywords.
Take your time, and write accurate, honest, and precise information.
To complete your profile, include the following
- 500+ connections - the more connections you have, the more opportunities to generate leads
- Received recommendations
- Received endorsements
- Skills and Expertise
- Experience
- Education
- Summary
- Headline
- Photo
Use anchor text
Once again, from the top level menu click on Profile > Edit Profile
Click on Contact info
Click to edit Websites links
Select ‘other’ option, it will allow you to enter three links with your anchor text (limited to 30 characters each). I would suggest two links to your website pages, with two key services and your company’s blog.
Vanity URL
Claim vanity URL - this is the easiest thing to do to improve your SEO.
When your have activated your public profile, you should be able to see URL under your picture. If you have PUV in the middle of the URL, this means you have not claimed it. Click on it and claim your name first, then claim your personal name for your personal profile (if your name is in use, put one single digit at the end of it; e.g. dorogavtsev1).
Claiming your vanity URL will increase the chances of your profile appearing higher in the search results when searching for your name online.
Experience Titles
Try to descriptive phrases for your employment positions. For example, if you are using something like ‘Manager’, you can make it clearer with inclusion of keywords, such as Bookkeeper, BAS Agent, and Specialist in Warehouse Stock Control and Import. Use keyword rich job titles, there is no need to embellish your accomplishments, just be descriptive.
Join relevant groups
There are two main reasons to do it
- Ability to add relevant keyword combinations by joining professional groups in your field and industry
- Ability to improve geotargeting by joining your local business groups.
Join the relevant groups and do not forget to participate. Helping others is a fantastic way to contribute, be noticed, network, and learn.
Promote your profile
There are three ways to promote your profile
- Use other social networks to link back to your profile
- Place links back to your profile from your website
- Use the LinkedIn button in your email signature
Endorsements
People are willing to give you an endorsement, even if they do not know you or have not done any business with you. Embrace this opportunity and make sure that you have industry related skills listed. Do not list skills in Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel; everyone knows how to use them!
Keep on collecting endorsements.
General SEO Rules
