This support item is a component of Short Term Accommodation (STA) and Assistance, which includes respite care, funded under your Core Supports budget in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It is designed to provide participants with an integrated, temporary stay away from their usual home while giving their family and informal carers a short break (respite).

Key Features and Inclusions:

Public Holiday Rate: This specific line item is to be claimed for STA services delivered on an official Public Holiday, reflecting the higher labour costs associated with support work on these days, in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits 2025-26.

Support Ratio (1:4): The support is delivered in a group setting with a ratio of one (1) support worker assisting up to four (4) participants. This provides a shared, social environment.

Integrated Support: The daily rate covers all costs for a 24-hour period, which is typically provided in a centre or group residence. This includes:

Accommodation: A safe, accessible, and comfortable place to stay.

Meals: Food and daily living expenses.

Personal Care: Assistance with daily living tasks, self-care, and supervision.

Activities: Funding for agreed-upon activities, promoting social engagement and community participation.

Purpose and Benefits (Respite):

The primary purpose is to provide a break for the participant and their primary informal supports. For the participant, STA offers the chance to:

Develop new life skills in a supported setting.

STA funding is generally allocated for up to 28 days per NDIS plan year, and stays are typically limited to a maximum of 14 consecutive days at a time. This flexibility allows participants and carers to use the funding in a way that best suits their individual needs, whether for a full 14-day block or multiple weekend respite breaks throughout the year.
