Medium Term Accommodation

Line Item Description

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) is a temporary housing solution funded by the NDIS for participants who need somewhere safe and suitable to live while they await the commencement of their confirmed long-term housing arrangements. This support item falls under the Core Support budget, specifically relating to Assistance with Daily Life Tasks in a Group or Shared Living Arrangement.

Purpose and Duration MTA is designed to act as a crucial bridge and is typically funded for a period of up to 90 days. It is not intended to be a permanent or ongoing living solution. Participants are generally eligible when they have a confirmed long-term home but cannot move in yet because their necessary disability supports are not ready. This includes situations such as:

Waiting for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) to be completed or become vacant.

Awaiting the completion of necessary Home Modifications or the installation of Assistive Technology in their new or existing home.

Transitioning from a hospital, residential aged care facility, or custodial setting, where they cannot safely remain, while they wait for their long-term housing solution, such as Supported Independent Living (SIL), to become available.

What is Covered by the Funding The funding allocated under line item 01_082_0115_1_1 covers only the accommodation costs of the medium-term residence itself, such as rent and basic property operating expenses.

What is Not Covered It is important to note that MTA funding does not include the cost of supports or day-to-day living expenses. Any essential support required by the participant while staying in MTA, such as daily personal care, support workers, assistance with daily living, meals, or utilities (like internet or electricity), must be claimed and funded separately through other relevant NDIS support items or is the participant's responsibility.

MTA ensures that participants have a secure and appropriate place to live during key transition periods, fostering independence and continuity of care while working towards their long-term housing goals.
