The support is officially titled "Capacity Building and Training in Self-Management and Plan Management" and is classified under the Core Support budget, giving participants flexibility in how they utilise these funds to build capacity. Purpose of the Support

The primary objective is to strengthen a participant's ability, or the ability of their family or nominee, to undertake the administrative and planning tasks associated with their NDIS plan. This focus on long-term growth is intended to increase independence, foster autonomy, and ensure participants can exercise maximum choice and control over their supports. The training works toward developing the capacity for participants to self-manage their plan in the future, if this is their goal.

What the Training Includes

This capacity building support provides tailored assistance and coaching, which can be delivered to individual participants or groups. It covers a range of practical skills essential for successful plan management and self-management, including:

Financial and Administrative Skills: Developing the ability to budget NDIS funds, track spending, manage invoices, make claims from the NDIA, and maintain necessary records (for up to five years).

Provider Management: Learning how to effectively engage with, select, negotiate with, and coordinate service providers.

Service Agreements: Assistance in establishing appropriate service agreements and enhancing the capacity to direct how supports are delivered.

Employer Obligations: Support for participants who wish to directly employ support staff, including help with recruitment, training, managing employment contracts, and understanding employer obligations.

Maximising Your Plan: Guidance on sourcing and negotiating services to ensure value for money and assistance to build and develop community supports.

As a flexible Core Support, the funding can also be used to acquire a payroll service or to receive advice regarding quality and safeguarding standards to ensure compliance and best practice.
