Line Item Description

This NDIS support item (01_205_0115_1_1) is a Core Support line item, categorised under the registration group Assistance with Daily Life Tasks in a Group or Shared Living Arrangement (0115).

Purpose of the Support Item

The primary purpose of this item is to fund additional, direct one-on-one (1:1) support for a participant's self-care and personal activities that occur during the Weekday Night shift (typically between 8:00 pm and 6:00 am) while they are accessing Short Term Accommodation and Assistance (STA), or respite.

STA packages include a base level of shared support, and this line item is used when a participant's high or complex support needs require a support worker to be dedicated solely to them (a 1:1 ratio) during the night, or a higher ratio of support is required (e.g., 2:1 for transfers). It ensures that intensive support is available overnight to manage complex personal care, respond to behavioural support plans, or assist with frequent needs that cannot be met through the standard, shared night support model.

What the Support Covers

This hourly-billed support specifically covers the extra staff hours needed for personal assistance during the night. Examples include, but are not limited to:

Intensive Personal Care: Scheduled overnight assistance with continence management, repositioning, or complex wound care.

Active Night Support: Providing continuous or frequent support that prevents the use of a lower-cost inactive night support arrangement.

Emergency Response: Staff being immediately available to respond to health, safety, or complex behavioural needs.

The rate charged reflects the higher award conditions for support workers providing active assistance during the overnight hours on a weekday (Monday night to Friday morning).

Important Note

This support item is exclusively for covering the cost of the supplementary support worker hours during the night and does not cover the cost of the STA accommodation, food, or general overheads, which are funded by the main STA and Assistance daily rate support item.
