Purpose of the Support Item

It ensures that the participant can receive safe, effective, and specialised support from highly trained staff when behaviours of concern are more likely to be complex or challenging.

This specific item is used to claim for all direct support hours provided on a Public Holiday. The maximum price limit for this line item reflects the necessity of attracting and retaining highly skilled workers for shifts on national or state-recognized public holidays, where penalty rates apply.

What the Support Covers

This hourly-billed support covers the direct time of a specialist support worker to:

Execute Complex Behaviour Support Plans: Follow and implement advanced, individualised strategies for positive behaviour support that require specific training and expertise.

Intensive Crisis Management: Provide immediate, high-concentration support or intervention during periods of escalated or challenging behaviour to maintain the participant's safety and the safety of others.

Proactive Skill Development: Continuously apply active support principles to help the participant develop adaptive skills and improve their overall quality of life and engagement during the holiday period.

Important Note

This support must be formally identified in the participant's NDIS plan as required support for managing high-intensity and/or complex behavioural needs. It funds the support worker's time only and is not for general daily assistance which is covered by standard line items.
