Line Item Description

This NDIS support item (01_602_0114_1_1) is classified under the Core Support category, specifically within the registration group Daily Activities (0114). This item funds the delivery of disability-related health supports that must be performed by a formally qualified nursing professional, an Enrolled Nurse (EN).

Purpose of the Support Item

The objective of this line item is to ensure that NDIS participants requiring routine or complex clinical care related to their disability can receive continuous, professional support on weekends. It funds the direct, hourly time of an Enrolled Nurse (EN), whose scope of practice allows them to perform specific health supports that a standard support worker is not qualified to deliver.

This item is exclusively claimed for all nursing services provided throughout the entire day on a Saturday. The price limit for this item is set higher than weekday rates to cover the penalty rates and increased costs associated with rostering qualified nursing staff on a weekend day.

What the Support Covers

This hourly-billed support covers the professional time of an Enrolled Nurse to perform delegated clinical tasks on a Saturday, which may include, but are not limited to:

Specialised Weekend Care: Continuing complex clinical routines, such as managing high-level wound care, ventilator monitoring, or complex medication administration (e.g., injections).

Scheduled Clinical Interventions: Performing regular Saturday procedures, such as complex bowel management, catheter or stoma care, or administering regular, essential health checks that require professional nursing judgment.

Health Status Assessment: Assessing and monitoring the participant's stable but complex health status, ensuring proactive response to any minor clinical changes that occur over the weekend.

Important Note

Funding for this item must be substantiated by the participant's need for registered nursing services as a result of their disability. It covers the cost of the Enrolled Nurse only and must not be used for general assistance with daily living tasks that do not require nursing qualifications.
