A support is classified as Intensive and Complex Behaviour Support if the participant, during service provision:
Displays frequent behaviours of concern that have a significant effect on their own or others’ wellbeing and safety.
Requires intensive support, including the implementation of intensive proactive strategies (frequent/daily), skill development, and response strategies.
May involve the use of restrictive practices to minimise the risk of harm, and the participant may be experiencing other issues that increase the complexity of their behaviour support needs.
Provider and Plan Requirements Service provision must be delivered in accordance with the participant's interim or comprehensive behaviour support plan [implied by the classification/support rules]. Providers delivering this support are generally required to be registered and assessed for Module 2A (Implementing Behaviour Support Plans).
Claiming Rules This support can be delivered to individual participants or to groups who require this high level of Intensive and Complex Behaviour Supports. When delivered to a group, the total support is divided by the number of people in the group for the purpose of claiming.
Providers may also use this support item to claim for non-face-to-face service provision, provider travel, and short notice cancellations with a notice period of 7 days. Additionally, associated costs such as Provider Travel – Non-Labour Costs and Activity Based Transport – Social, Economic and Community Participation Supports may be claimed.
