This NDIS support item falls under the Capital budget and is used for the Rental of Assistive Technology. It specifically covers the rental of Postural Support devices that utilise Foam and/or Gel component systems for pressure care, corresponding to Registration Group 0103 (Assistive Products for Respiration Support, often used for other complex health-related AT).

This line item is intended to fund the temporary use of pressure-relieving equipment, which includes mattresses, overlays, or seating cushions constructed with specialised foam (e.g., visco-elastic or memory foam) and/or gel components. These materials are designed to contour to the participant's body, providing superior pressure distribution compared to standard supports.

Rental of this equipment is generally utilised when:

Short-term Needs: The need for enhanced pressure care is expected to be temporary or for a defined period, such as during a recovery phase.

Triage/Assessment: The equipment is needed immediately to manage a short-term pressure risk while a complex assessment for permanent equipment is underway.

Trial Period: The participant is trialling a specific combination of foam and gel components recommended by a therapist before a purchase is approved.

The support ensures that participants with limited mobility or existing pressure injuries have timely access to the required level of static pressure care to promote comfort, healing, and prevent the development of new pressure areas.
