Where a support item does not have a price limit then the provider and participant should agree on the reasonable price for the support. If necessary, they should also agree on the billing schedule for the support. In the NDIS Support Catalogue marked under empty type.
This support item, 05_121209821_0109_1_2, is for Vehicle Modification - For Seating and/or Seat Belts under the Assistive Technology (Capital) support category.
Purpose of the Support This funding covers the cost of changes made to a vehicle specifically related to seating and occupant restraint systems to ensure the NDIS participant can drive or travel in it safely and comfortably due to the functional impact of their disability. The goal of the modification is to help you pursue your goals, get to places you need to go, and participate in work, social, and community activities with greater independence.
Examples of Modifications Covered Funding under this line item may include the supply, installation, and associated costs for modifications such as:
Modified car seats or specialised seating.
Customised cushioning and seating adjustments to improve posture and stability.
Installation of modified restraints and certified seat belt systems (e.g., harnesses or specialised locking belts).
Repairs, maintenance, and replacement parts for the modification itself.
Important Considerations All modifications must be considered reasonable and necessary by the NDIS. For the modification to be funded:
The vehicle must be owned by the participant or a family member, or you must have regular access to it and permission from the owner to make the changes.
An assessment and recommendation from a suitably qualified professional, such as a driver-trained Occupational Therapist, is usually required, especially for complex changes.
This line item is for the cost of the modification and installation only and does not cover the cost of purchasing or leasing the vehicle itself, nor does it cover standard running costs like registration or fuel.
Some activities can be delivered without the participant percent
Some providers can charge participants for the time it takes them to travel and deliver support
