NDIS Employment Assistance (Capacity Building – Finding and Keeping a Job)

This support item (10_016_0102_5_3) provides specialised workplace assistance to empower NDIS participants to successfully obtain and/or retain employment within the open or supported labour market. This capacity-building support is designed for any working-age participant, including students reaching working age, who has an active employment goal in their NDIS plan.

The assistance focuses on developing the participant's capacity, skills, and independence to achieve their employment aspirations.

What this support includes:
The flexible and individualised support may include:

Discovery and Career Planning: Activities to help the participant explore their interests, strengths, and what work would mean for them, leading to the development of a tailored career plan.

Building Foundational Skills: Support to build essential soft and hard skills for work, such as communication, time management, appropriate workplace behaviour, and travel skills.

Managing Complex Barriers: Assistance in overcoming complex barriers to obtaining and sustaining employment.

Job Customisation and Search: Specialised support for job customisation, carving out roles, and practical assistance with job searching, applications, resume writing, and interview preparation.

On-the-Job Support: Mentoring and coaching to help a participant transition into a new role and maintain their employment once a job has been secured. This may involve training and education for employers and co-workers.

Transition Support: Assistance for participants wishing to transition from a supported employment environment (such as an Australian Disability Enterprise or ADE) into open employment.

Engagement Pathway: Other capacity building supports that are likely to lead to successful engagement in a Disability Employment Service (DES) or other vocational pathway.

This support is funded under the Capacity Building support purpose in the 'Finding and Keeping a Job' category of a participant's NDIS plan.

Note: This item cannot be used to fund a Certified education course (e.g., a Certificate I in Workplace Education), as these are typically funded through the vocational education system.
