Exercise Physiology

Line Item Description

This support item is part of the Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living support category and is intended for participants aged 9 or older.


It provides funding for therapeutic services delivered by an Exercise Physiologist. The purpose of these supports is to facilitate functional improvement for participants who have an established disability and have reached maximum medical improvement. All therapy delivered under this item must be aimed at adjustment, adaption, and building the participant's capacity for community participation.



This item can also be used for the following purposes:


Maintenance Care: To provide ongoing support that helps a participant maintain their current level of functioning, achieve small incremental gains, or prevent functional decline.


Carer Training: To deliver reasonable and necessary training to carers or non-qualified personnel, enabling them to assist the participant as part of their usual daily care.


Disability-Related Health Supports: For the assessment, planning, and delivery of health supports that are directly related to the participant's significant and permanent functional impairment and assist them with activities of daily living.

This support item cannot be used for massage services that are intended to directly impact a body part or system, as these are more appropriately funded by the health system.

Provider Qualifications This support can only be delivered by an Exercise Physiologist, who is defined as a person who is an "Accredited exercise physiologist with Exercise and Sports Science Australia".

Delivery and Claiming Rules This support can be delivered to individual participants or to groups. In addition to the direct provision of service, providers can use this support item to claim for:

Providers can also claim for the non-labour costs of travel using the relevant support item (15_799_0126_1_3 or 15_799_0128_1_3).
