Line Item Description

This support item is part of the Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living support category. It is specifically for therapeutic supports provided to participants aged 9 or older.

Support Purpose and Scope This line item is for therapeutic services delivered by an Occupational Therapist to participants who have an established disability. The primary goals of this support are to:

Facilitate functional improvement where maximum medical improvement has been reached.

Aim at adjustment, adaption, and building capacity for community participation.

Assist in the development of, or increase, a participant's skills and their capacity for independence.

This support item can also be used for:
- Maintenance Care: To provide ongoing support for a participant to maintain their current level of functioning, achieve small incremental gains, or prevent functional decline.
- Carer Training: To deliver reasonable and necessary training to carers or non-qualified personnel to assist a participant with a particular regime as part of their usual daily care.
- Disability-Related Health Supports: For the assessment, planning, and delivery of disability-related health supports that directly relate to a participant's functional impairment and assist them with activities of daily living.

This support item 15_617_0128_1_3 cannot be used for massage, as those supports are more appropriately funded by the health system.

Provider Qualifications Supports claimed under this item must be delivered by a qualified Occupational Therapist. The NDIS defines this as "A person who has a current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Registration as an Occupational Therapist.".

This support may also be delivered by a Therapy Assistant (Level 1 or 2) operating under the delegation and supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist. The supervising therapist or their employer must cover the therapy assistant under their professional indemnity insurance.

Claiming Rules
This support item can be delivered to individual participants or in a group setting. In addition to the direct provision of therapy, providers can use this item to claim for:
- Non-Face-to-Face Support Provision
- Provider Travel
- NDIA Requested Reports
- Short Notice Cancellation (subject to the 2 clear business days rule)

Providers can also make separate claims for the non-labour costs of provider travel (such as road tolls or per-kilometre costs) using the corresponding travel item, 15_799_0128_1_3.
