This support item is listed under the Capacity Building - Improved Daily Living support category and is for participants aged 9 or older.


Support Purpose
This item provides therapeutic supports to participants with an established disability to facilitate functional improvement. The therapy aims at adjustment, adaption, and building the participant's capacity for independence and community participation.



This support can be used for:


Assessment and Therapy Assessment, planning, or training supports provided by an orthoptist.


Disability-Related Health Supports The assessment, planning, and delivery of health supports that relate directly to a participant's functional impairment and assist them with activities of daily living.


Maintenance Care Providing ongoing support to help a participant maintain their level of functioning, achieve small incremental gains, or prevent functional decline.


Carer Training Training carers or non-qualified personnel to deliver a maintenance regime as part of a participant's usual daily care.

Professional Requirements
This support can only be delivered by an Orthoptist, who is defined as a person who has current registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board.

Supports may also be delivered by a Therapy Assistant (Level 1 or 2) operating under the delegation and supervision of a qualified Orthoptist.


Claiming and Delivery Rules

Delivery: This support can be delivered to individual participants or to groups.

Claiming: In addition to direct service provision, providers can claim for the following activities using this line item:

Short Notice Cancellation (2 clear business days)


Travel: Providers can also claim for provider travel non-labour costs using the relevant travel support item.
