‘Notional Unit Price’ Support Line Item is a type of line items under NDIS Pricing Arrangements. Supports are not subject to a price limit and $1.00 is not the maximum price to be charged for a unit, it is how a claim is made to the NDIA.Each of the Notional Unit Prices might have their own pricing limits.
This NDIS support item falls under the Capital budget and is used for the Rental of Assistive Technology. It specifically covers the rental of Prostheses and Orthoses, corresponding to Registration Group 0135 (Assistive Products for Personal Mobility and Transfer, which includes these mobility/function devices).
The purpose of this line item is to provide participants with temporary access to prosthetic or orthotic devices when outright purchase is not yet appropriate or necessary. Prostheses are artificial limbs or body parts, while Orthoses are devices like braces or splints used to support or correct the function of a body part.
Rental is typically used for key situations such as:
Trial and Assessment: To allow the participant to thoroughly test a device (e.g., a specific model of myoelectric hand, or a dynamic orthosis) to ensure it meets their complex needs before a significant purchase investment is made.
Temporary Use: When the need is for a limited time, such as during a recovery period, or while a permanent, custom-made device is being manufactured or repaired.
Sizing Changes: In the case of children or during periods of rapid body changes, rental allows for flexibility in scaling the device without constant purchase cycles.
This rental support ensures that participants have timely, functional mobility and postural support, maximising their capacity for daily activities and community participation while maintaining flexibility in their long-term AT plan.
Some activities can be delivered without the participant percent
Some providers can charge participants for the time it takes them to travel and deliver support
