‘Notional Unit Price’ Support Line Item is a type of line items under NDIS Pricing Arrangements. Supports are not subject to a price limit and $1.00 is not the maximum price to be charged for a unit, it is how a claim is made to the NDIA.Each of the Notional Unit Prices might have their own pricing limits.
This support item falls under the category of Assistive Technology (AT) Rental within the NDIS, specifically for devices that provide either Vision Support or Alternate Access to technology and information.
Purpose of Rental:
The rental line item is crucial when a participant needs temporary access to Assistive Technology for purposes such as:
Trialing Equipment: Allowing the participant to test a specific high-cost item (like an advanced screen reader, refreshable braille display, or specialised alternative computer input device) before committing to a purchase. This ensures the technology is the best fit for their needs and environment.
Short-Term Needs: Covering periods where the participant's primary equipment is being repaired, or where they have a temporary need for a specific device (e.g., during a training program or short-term rehabilitation).
Vision Support: Renting devices such as video magnifiers (CCTVs), specialised lighting, or complex software licenses designed to assist individuals with low vision or blindness.
Alternate Access: Renting equipment that allows a participant to interact with computers, phones, or other devices when standard methods (keyboard, mouse) are not possible. This can include eye-gaze technology, adapted switches, specialised joysticks, or modified software interfaces.
Renting AT ensures participants have timely access to essential technology, supporting functional capacity, independence, and social participation, without the immediate commitment of a full purchase.
Some activities can be delivered without the participant percent
Some providers can charge participants for the time it takes them to travel and deliver support
