‘Notional Unit Price’ Support Line Item is a type of line items under NDIS Pricing Arrangements. Supports are not subject to a price limit and $1.00 is not the maximum price to be charged for a unit, it is how a claim is made to the NDIA.Each of the Notional Unit Prices might have their own pricing limits.
This support item is categorized under Assistive Technology (AT) Rental within the NDIS, covering the temporary provision of equipment related to hearing support and communication.
Purpose of AT Rental:
The rental line item is designed to allow NDIS participants to access essential hearing technology and accessories on a short-term basis. This support is commonly utilised for several key purposes:
Device Trialing: It enables participants to test a specific hearing device, such as a high-end hearing aid, Cochlear Implant accessories, or an advanced Frequency Modulated (FM) system, to ensure it meets their functional and environmental needs before a full purchase is made.
Bridging Support: It provides interim devices when the participant’s own primary hearing device is undergoing repair, modification, or replacement, thereby ensuring continuity of communication and access.
Temporary Needs: It covers short-term usage of accessories or devices required for a specific temporary activity, such as education, therapy, or vocational training.
Covered Items:
This line item covers the rental costs for the device itself and relevant custom-made or standard accessories necessary for its effective use. This includes, but is not limited to, the rental of:
Hearing Aids and processors.
Remote microphone systems (FM or Digital systems).
Alerting and warning devices (e.g., vibrating alarms, visual doorbells).
Custom earmoulds or other necessary accessories specifically for the rented device.
Renting AT is an important mechanism for reducing the risk of purchasing an unsuitable high-cost item and for maintaining functional capacity and safety for the participant.
Some activities can be delivered without the participant percent
Some providers can charge participants for the time it takes them to travel and deliver support
