Understanding NDIS Behaviour Support
For NDIS participants, funding for behaviour support NDIS services is typically located under the "Capacity Buildin" budget, specifically within the "CB Relationships" support category. This funding is designed to pay for the development of behaviour support plans and the necessary training for the people who support you.
Specialist Behavioural Intervention Support
Specialist behavioural intervention support involves intensive support for a participant to address significantly harmful or persistent behaviours of concern. This process requires the development of a behaviour support plan that outlines proactively designed positive strategies for the participant, their family, and support persons.
It is mandatory that all specialist behaviour support providers are registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Participants cannot use unregistered providers for these specific supports, even if their funds are plan-managed or self-managed.

Claiming Rules for NDIS Behaviour Support
When accessing NDIS behaviour support, providers and participants must adhere to specific claiming rules:
- Provider Travel: Providers can claim for travel time. For therapy providers (which includes specialist behavioural intervention practitioners), the hourly price limit for travel is capped at 50% of the regular price limit.
- Non-Face-to-Face Support: Providers can claim for non-face-to-face activities, such as writing reports or developing strategies, provided these conditions are met.
- Cancellations: Providers can claim for short notice cancellations if the participant provides less than two clear business days' notice.
- NDIA Requested Reports: Reports requested by the NDIA can also be claimed under these line items.
Intensive and Complex Behaviour Supports in Core
While the above items relate to Capacity Building, participants may also see "Intensive and Complex Behaviour Supports" listed under their Core budget (Assistance with Daily Life). This applies when a participant displays frequent behaviours of concern that require intensive proactive strategies and skill development. Pricing for these Core supports varies by time of day.
