First, let’s set apart the three types of travel/transport under NDIS:
- Participant transport enables participants to access disability supports outside of their home (including specialised transport).
- Provider travel claimed by providers for time (non-face-to-face labour) and/or non-labour cost (eg. kms, tolls) to get to the participant.
- Activity based transport face-to-face labour and/or non-labour cost accrued by travelling with the participant during the support activities.
In this article, we are going to focus only on non-labour activity based transport. After negotiation with a participant, the providers of community participation under Core budget and Capacity Building supports can offer transportation services to participants.
The worker's time can be claimed at the agreed hourly rate for the support item.
If transporting multiple participants together, the worker's time should be divided among them.
Core - Social and Community Participation
Social and community participation activities under Core funding aims to enhance the social inclusion and engagement of people with disabilities, enabling them to actively participate in their communities and enjoy a range of social experiences.
