Level 1: Support Connection: Assists participants in understanding their plan and connecting with providers and broader systems of support.
This support item assists a participant in implementing their plan by strengthening their ability to connect with broader support systems and understand the purpose of their funded supports. Support Connection helps participants utilize their NDIS plan effectively and increases their capacity to maintain support relationships, resolve service delivery issues, and participate in NDIA processes.

Providers of this support can claim for non-face-to-face provision, provider travel, NDIA requested reports, and short notice cancellations (7 days).
Level 2: Coordination of Supports: Focuses on supporting participants to direct their own lives by building a resilient network of formal and informal supports. This includes helping participants understand their funding and design their support approaches.
This support item strengthens a participant's ability to design and build their supports, with a specific focus on linking to broader support systems within a complex service delivery environment. The objective is to assist participants in directing their own lives by building and maintaining a resilient network of formal and informal supports.
This level includes all Level 1 activities, as well as:
- Designing Support Approaches
- Targeted Support Coordination
- Crisis: Planning, Prevention, Mitigation, and Action
- Building Capacity and Resilience
Level 3: Specialist Support Coordination: This is an expert approach for participants with high complex needs or high-level risks. It is delivered by an appropriately qualified practitioner (such as a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, or Social Worker) to address complex barriers to plan implementation.
This support is delivered using an expert or specialist approach required due to specific high complex needs or high-level risks in a participant's situation. It is delivered by an appropriately qualified and experienced practitioner, such as a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, or Mental Health Nurse.
Specialist Support Coordination addresses complex barriers to plan implementation , assists stakeholders in resolving crisis points , and is typically intensive and time-limited. It may involve designing a complex service plan that details how all stakeholders will interact.
Psychosocial Recovery Coaches: Provides assistance for participants with a psychosocial disability to build capacity and resilience. Coaches, who must have lived or learnt experience, work collaboratively with participants to plan and coordinate NDIS supports.
These support items are specifically for participants with a psychosocial disability, providing assistance to build capacity and resilience through strong, respectful relationships. This support is designed to maintain engagement even through periods of increased support needs due to the episodic nature of mental illness.
Recovery coaches work collaboratively with participants, families, and carers to identify, plan, design, and coordinate NDIS supports. This role requires lived and/or learnt experience, defined as:
- Tertiary qualifications in peer work or mental health (minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health); or
- A minimum of two years of experience in mental health-related work.
